It is the student groups that have been my concern from the beginning. This is my personal take on what the consequences of FTT was for the movement that I saw.

The StopWar.ca coalition began with strong and enthusiastic involvement by trade unions, community groups, and student groups. Co-operative activism between trade unions and youth has the potential to substantially enhance the effectiveness of the movement for peace and justice and this alliance in StopWar.ca was a source of optimism for the movement.

The real crime of the split when FTT ensured that they were expelled from StopWar.ca was the fact that they threw a wedge between trade union members and students as well as cutting students off from community groups. The strong presence of student activists disappeared overnight and campuses became eerily quiet as FTT took over the antiwar movement on campuses and essentially alienated most people.

What activism continued on local campuses occurred in spite of the destructive presence of the FTT groups. The destructiveness was a direct result of their interfering, parasitic behaviour.
